Teaching is a creative profession. Great teachers pass information, as well as mentor, stimulate, provoke, and engage. Education is about learning. If there’s no learning there is no education. – Sir Ken Robinson
Since I was a little girl I knew my call was to be a teacher. I used to ask my siblings to play the student role, the rest of the class were my stuffed animals. I’m sure you can picture that image now. My Dad bought me a chalkboard, so I could have the whole experience. We had small chairs that were used as part of the scenario. I loved my teaching role.
As time went on, and for personal reasons, I majored in Business. I started working, and was learning and growing, but deep down I knew that what I wanted to do was teach. So, as soon as I was able to, I looked for a teaching position, went on to major in English Language Teaching and continued with the Master’s in Education. This year I’m doing a doctorate in Education.
I’ve enjoyed every part of my teaching and learning career. I’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly. Nevertheless, I don’t regret any moment. I’ve learned from my students as much as I am sure they have learned from me, and that has been priceless. I am willing to continue because that is how I can make a difference.
This month, as we take time to recognize teachers’ arduous work, resilience, passion and dedication to their calling. I’d like to say that it is all worth it. Somewhere in the world, someone is doing what they love thanks to your dedicated teaching. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
Thank you for believing in your students, thank you for not giving up on them, and thank you for seeing in them what others wouldn’t see, a light that could spark in the middle of a dark room. The world needs more passionate teachers like you.
Kudos to you teachers!
